The Ten Commandments of Internet Marketing
When it comes to internet marketing some techniques and tactics work better than others. Some internet marketing methods are optional, while others are absolutely essential to your success. The following list comprises of these highly essential aspects of your internet marketing plan, or in other words, “The Ten Commandments of Internet Marketing”:
I. Thou Shall Not Ignore the Need for Good Content. Most internet marketing experts agree that good content is absolutely essential not only for increasing your search engine ranking, but also for making your website “valuable” to potential customers. After all, there’s no sense getting people to click on your site if they are just going to click away five seconds later.
II. Thou Shall Not Include too Many High Tech Element. Yes, you read that right. Impressing people with flash presentations and tons of interactive elements is not what increases your search engine ranking and it isn’t what makes a sale, either. Keep in mind that a slow page load will have people clicking away before you page is even loaded and over half of America is still on dial-up.
III. Thou Shall Not Give Up too Quickly. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and it can take some time for you to see the results of your labors.
IV. Thou Shall Be Consistent. You have to be consistent about adding new content and keeping your site updated or you will lose your search engine ranking and the site will become stale.
V. Thou Shall Not Use Only One Internet Marketing Method. You have to diversify and use multiple internet marketing methods if you want to be competitive. Getting your website search engine optimized is great, but other methods like forum posting and article marketing also increase your search engine rankings while providing another way for people to find your website.
VI. Thou Shall Split Test. If you aren’t split testing you have no idea what elements of your website are helping you make a sale and which are driving people away. So split test often.
VII. Thou Shall Brand Thyself. You need to create a unique identity for yourself and your products on the internet. This is what will make someone choose to buy from you instead of the thousand other people selling the same thing.
VIII. Thou Shall Build Your List. Building your own list helps you develop a relationship with a targeted market; this is a sure way to turn tire-kickers into customers.
IX. Thou Shall Make and Keep an Internet Marketing Budget. You need to be sure not to spend more than you can afford to lose, at least in the beginning. You don’t want to end up not putting food on the table because your Adwords got a gazillion hits from people who didn’t buy anything. Remember, this can take time.
X. Thou Shall Do What Thy Can Thyself and Outsource the Rest. Some things you can do yourself and others are better left to the experts. Make sure you are being honest with yourself when you make this determination. Unless you got all A’s in English and won some writing awards in high school, you may want to purchase custom SEO articles, for example.
There you have the Ten Commandments of Internet Marketing. If you follow these carefully you are sure to see success in due time.
